Dr. Tiratha Raj Singh is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Jaypee University of Information technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Solan, H.P. He also holds the position of Media In-charge, JUIT. He is coordinator of the Centre of Healthcare Technologies and Informatics (CEHTI), JUIT. Prof. Singh did his PhD in Bioinformatics from MANIT, Bhopal and joint research work for PhD was also done from Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel. Prof. Singh worked with Dr. KR Pardasani and Dr. Tal Pupko; their role as supervisor and co-supervisor respectively for his PhD. After completing his PhD in 2008, Prof. Singh won a post doctoral fellowship from the planning and budgeting committee (VATAT), Tel Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel. Prof. Singh did his post doctoral studies in Functional Genomics and Molecular Evolution in Dr. Dorothee Huchon's lab, TAU, Israel. Returning from Israel, Prof. Singh joined DAVV, Indore, India for a year during 2009-10. Prof. Singh joined JUIT in July 2010 as an Assistant Professor (Grade II) and since then he is working on various aspects of genomics and proteomics towards their involvement in various human diseases. Dr. Singh is also involved in the annotation of complex Biological Networks through computational systems biology and functional genomics approaches. His current area of research is focused on DNA repair systems and Alzheimer's Disease (AD) through a myriad of computational approaches. Dr. Singh's lab is trying to generate biologically meaningful information for few malignancies associated with human DNA repair systems by mining huge amounts of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and pathways data. For AD, his lab is trying to rediscover the cholinergic hypothesis through acetylcholine esterase and its inhibition activities. Additionally, his lab proposed multiple inhibitors for the myriad of drug targets for AD and cancer through computational means. Prof. Singh completed the DST FAST TRACK project and two more projects from ICMR. As a Co-PI in a major DBT funded project, he was associated with the annotation of transcriptomic data for Himalayan medicinal herbs. Prof. Singh has published his research work in various highly reputed journals to name a few, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Computers in Biology and Medicine, Nature Scientific Reports, Journal of Molecular Liquids, JBSD, DNA Repair, PlosOne, Phytochemistry, Planta, Gene, Journal of Theoretical Biology, and many more. He has guided several BTech, MTech and MSc project students for their final year research projects. Eight PhDs were awarded under his guidance. Prof. Singh's lab developed some important databases for human DNA repair systems as well as for Alzheimer's disease. Many tools and web-based applications were also developed from his lab for the analysis of various kinds of biological data. Prof. Singh received multiple awards and recognitions in his academic and research career that includes, Young Scientist award from International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP), NVIDIA Hardware Award, Bioclues Innovation Research and Development award and an International Patent.
