The objective of the workshop was to acquaint the faculty with the ABET/NBA accreditation process, the criteria for accreditation, the specific practices that need to be followed and the records that need to be maintained such that the evidence could be built to demonstrate the conformity with the stipulated accreditation criteria.
Professor Claire Komives, Department of Biomedical, Chemical & Materials Engineering, San Jose State University, San Jose, California USA conducted the Workshop on April 15, 2015.
Prof S K Kak, Vice Chancellor, inaugurated the workshop explaining the need and necessity of accreditation for recognition of programmers at the international level, continuous improvement in the programme. .
The workshop comprised three sessions:
Session 1: ABET/NBA accreditation: Eight Criteria
After a brief introduction of ABET, Professor Komives explained the Eight Criteria forming the bases of Accreditation by ABET/NBA. What is expected under each criterion was explained. Defining of Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs), Student Outcomes/Programme Outcomes (SOs/POs) and Course Outcomes (COs) was discussed in detail.
Session 2: Program Assessment and Continuous Improvement
Possible procedures for assessment of programme and steps which can be taken were discussed in this session.
Session 3: Outcomes Assessment
Tools and procedures for assessing the student outcomes and continuous improvement process were explained
